Irene’s Outer Bits

On Saturday, August 27, 2011 the most of Hurricane Irene we saw was her rear as she passed wind our way around 15-20 miles per hour.  It was the nicest end she had. There were some clouds that floated around looking dark and ominous bringing no rain.

This really isn’t a dramatic video of Hurricane Irene. Far from it. The most excitement in here is Lakota (the black cat), Shades (dilute tort) and some trash blowing around in the yard. You can hear Fox news in the background talking about the hurricane.

Please take this in the spirit it is meant, me playing with the camera and YouTube. Next step is to figure out how to edit along with any other cool thing I can find or do.

In Memory Of: Witchipoo

Far too young to die and yet she lost her life early on Friday morning, July 1, 2011. It was my decision to make and I did. Beloved friend, companion and cat. An awesome cat the vet told me. She really was.

Freaky On Fridays: The Itsy Bitsy Spider

Isn’t so bitsy.

In general I try to ignore spiders. The occasional spider does come in and I, Paul or Tracey will catch them and put them back outside.

They don’t make me happy and when I really think about them and the way they kill and eat their prey, it kind of freaks me out. However, I recognize they are good for the environment and if they leave me alone; I leave them alone.

We’ve even had the occasional pet spiders. Years ago some black widows set up webs in my book shed so Paul caught them in a small pet habitat. Tracey fed them and kept them under the porch for a while before I made her set them free. Out in woods. Far, far away.

Last week I let the dogs out on the back porch. They stopped long enough to greet Shades, one of our indoor/outdoor kitties, and then ran on out into the backyard.

As I closed the sliding the doors I saw a humongous spider running at me along its web. While I was sick a Carolina Wolf spider set up shop there beside my doors. Yikes!

Katara Update

It’s been over six months since Paul and I went on the epic trip to Missouri to deliver Katara to her forever home with Marti V. We left around midnight on Wednesday and made it to Kansas City, Missouri around 10:30pm on Thursday night. In just under twenty-four hours we drove over 1,000 miles. Read more about Katara here, here and here.

One of Marti’s first emails to me after we got home was how much joy and laughter Katara had already brought into her life. She said their walks together were already giving her energy.
